from Sambow (Heavy Hitta, 2003)

Sambow is a Hispanic rapper out of Houston, TX who has close ties to South Park Mexican, his Dope House record label, and their affiliated artists. He originally broke into the rap game as an artist for One Tyme Entertainment, which put out the soundtrack to a 2002 movie called Texas Boys which was based around Sambow’s life growing up in Texas. A year after the soundtrack’s release, he put out his self-titled debut album, though it was put out through Heavy Hittas Entertainment rather than One Tyme.

The album includes a number of guest appearances, including two from UGK. (The album’s guest list also includes Devin the Dude, Ronnie Spencer, and some members of Sambow’s Texas Boys crew.) Pimp C shows up to drop a verse along side Sambow and Platinum Tonge on the D.L.P. produced “Bitch N*gga” while both Bun and Pimp rap on the only single from the album, the Fallen Angel produced “Time to Ball.”

As far as I know, Sambow is currently serving out a pretty hefty jail sentence. I’m not even sure if he’s put out any new material since his debut in 2003. As it stands, it looks like Sambow was his first and only album. While there is a Sambow who is doing time, it’s not the same one who did this album and worked with UGK—they are two different dudes entirely who just happen to share the same name.

Props to Qdawg for the info on Sambow, what little there is.
