from I’sa Playa CD single (Rap-A-Lot, 2005)

“Time” is one of those tracks that has been around for awhile. According to this Matt Sonzala interview with Pimp C, “Time” was originally recorded in 1996 or 1997 and was intended for N.O. Joe’s mythical solo album that never was. (The very same Joe solo album that “Bump & Grill” was meant for, by the way.) Once Joe scrapped the album, the track stayed in limbo for awhile before it ended up on a compilation of Twista tracks called Adrenaline Rush 2000 that was released in, uh, 2000. Also, like a lot of UGK-related tracks from the late ’90s and early ’00s, it also appeared on its fair share of bootlegs; in particular it showed up as “Something Going Wrong” on The Lost Tracks bootleg.

“Time” was also re-purposed in 2005 for Pimp C’s second album of solo material The Sweet James Jones Stories. The track was essentially the same, though it included a sung chorus by Z-Ro and a new title (“I’sa Playa”) to go along with it. This new version was also available on CD and vinyl singles; while I don’t have a vinyl copy, you can get the CD version below if you like.
