Master P f/ Pimp C, Silkk Da Shocker – “I Miss My Homies”
from I Miss My Homies CD single (No Limit/Priority, 1997)
“I Miss My Homies” was the first single from Master P’s most successful album Ghetto D. It featured a beat by Mo B. Dick of Beats by the Pound, who also did some additional vocals for the track. At five minutes long, it’s a massive dedication to fallen homies. It’s a pretty somber affair, though when P does his usual guttural “Ugghs” it kind of ruins the mood. But Pimp brings it back with his verse, as he was an unlikely master at dropping some really poignant lyrics when he had to.
The track has at least two different CD singles: a promotional version which includes radio and street edits plus the instrumental and another single that includes the non-album (?) cut “Here We Go” with Mystikal and Fiend. I don’t have the version with that extra track, but it will get posted once I’m able to get my mitts on a copy.
The video comes from one of my late-night trawls through SoulSeek. It’s apparently a VHS rip and it kind of shows. The observant among you will notice that it is also just the explicit audio dubbed over the clean version of the video (peep the blur over people’s mouths when they’re cussing), but it’s still a nice find regardless.
